The Green Data Project has been established to create a community for business, IT and government to discuss the issues of data center power consumption and to establish standards and practices for containing the carbon footprint of information technology operations going forward. It is the central contention of this community that the root cause of accelerating power utilization is the generally poor state of data management in most firms. Simply put, unmanaged data - Creates inefficiencies in business operations and IT investments.
- Compromises risk management programs to secure and protect information assets
- Drives the acquisition of storage capacity in the form of disk arrays and other power hungry equipment, increasing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) requirements in the process, and increasing the carbon footprint of contemporary data center operations
- Compromises the compliance of organizations with legal and regulatory requirements associated with digital information
The Green Data Project believes that Green IT begins with Green Data. Our objective is to discern, through a community process, best practices and realistic strategies that will help organizations green their IT operations by managing data better. We invite business leaders, IT practitioners, technology vendors, government decision makers, and everyone who manages, protects, or processes digital information to become a part of the Project. There is no cost to join. Registration is required, however, to participate in the dialog here. Registrant information will not be shared. We hope you will become a part of the solution and will join the Green Data Project today.
